About Me

I am a Church of God pastor, Cleveland TN, living in central Florida.  My wife and I have been here about five years.  We have twin daughters and three wonderful grandchildren.  Our house is quite noisy at times, because there’s a West Highland White Terrier and very happy gray cockatiel who currently act like they own the place. Come to think of it, they do get their way quite often.

My goal is to make heaven my home one day; Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior.  Until that day, however, the Lord, my family and I are on a wonderful journey together. God never promised smooth sailing, but He did promise to be with us through life’s circumstances. What a friend we have in Jesus; He’s the Rock we lean on.

After being raised in church all my life, I finally met the man Christ Jesus at an old non-denominational church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Easter Sunday, 1977.  One thing I can truly say is this: the Lord is faithful. I have been blessed to serve God since then with a heartfelt desire to please Him in every area of my life.  Understand, that has not always happened.

Now, about the name of the blog, From Preacherpen’s Desk.  I have been collecting and using pens for a lot of years.  If memory serves correctly, I first started collecting them while working at the Air Force hospital, Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida.  Fountain pens are, by far, my favorite writing devices; there’s lots of them in my collection.  Writing with a finely crafted pen is a pleasurable experience for me, and if you don’t already, you might want to give a fountain pen another chance. I really enjoy writing, so, instead of taking my fountain pens to paper, I use the keyboard to put my thoughts on electronic pages.

This is my first blog, and, obviously, there’s quite a lot to learn.  No doubt, the blog will change over time, and will surely improve. Thanks for stopping by. Come again, and bring someone with you. Pastor Ron Parish

BTW, the header picture changes regularly, and sometimes comes from the artwork section of the Mepis Lovers Linux forum. Occasionally, you will find some clip art from Christian Clipart. Please drop by and see them.

  8. Hi Preacherpen
I don’t know anything about blogs, but it looks good to me. Hey, like that mattered. Ha
I hope it turns out like you want. I will talk to both of you soon.
    With Love
    Betty

  9. I was just going to say your blog looks good and welcome to the world of WordPress and blogs. I am going to add you to my blog roll.

  12. Hi Pastor Ron!

I’ve caught you a few times on the Mepis blog so i thought i’d drop by here. Good to see you are clinging to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

    Blessings!

    Marty
a.k.a. Subito Piano on the forums (both Mepis – main distro – and Puppy)

  13. Marty, thanks for dropping by. Hopefully, there will be something here of interest to you; come by as often as you like. BTW, hope you got the iPod issue straightened out. If you haven’t seen your message yet, I sent several links to posts that could probably give you the answers you need. Be blessed.

  14. Congratulations on a new door God has opened for you. I know lives will be touched through this form of ministry. We love and appreciate you.

  15. Thanks, Brother Donnie. The hope of this blog is to affect lives in a positive way. Hopefully, something here will encourage, lift up and basically cause people to consider things in a different light.

  16. Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my blog!!!

It was interesting to find out that you are a Church Of God Pastor. My husband and I helped start a COG church in Burgaw, NC where we live, about five years ago. He was the youth pastor there, and I played piano and sang on the worship team.

Needless to say, sadly we aren’t there anymore because of some issues with the leadership that could not be resolved, but we had a great time serving in that ministry for a time. And God has moved us into a newer, bigger, season of ministry that we would never have known had He not moved us on. So what seemed like bad, he turned into good. He has a habit of doing that. 🙂

I’m looking forward to browsing around your blog more when I get some more time, and reading what’s in your heart. I’ll be back!!!

  17. Dear Pastor,

Fun article! My wife and I, too, enjoyed Sarah’s speech. I have a couple of blogsites. I’d welcome your visits, and comments.

Keep up the good work, and I’ll see you in heaven one day.

  18. Central Florida – curios as to where. Mama and I spend the winter months about 30 miles west of Ocala – December thru April.

  19. 30 miles NW of Orlando on US 441. We have some wonderful visitors from Ohio who attend church with us regularly during the winter months.

  20. Well, if you’re that close, you should come visit Mount Dora, especially during the Christmas season. It’s a beautiful little New England type town, and when the city puts the decorations up, it’s beautiful, indeed.

We would love to have you come worship with us, too.

  21. One of my favorite preachers of all time lives near Cleveland TN.

  22. Hi Ron. I do not bump into too many techie pastors. A Linux user, eh? Cool. At home I run a FreeBSD web/ftp server along with the family XP computer.

  23. Ric, thanks for dropping by. Come back often, and bring your friends, too.

  24. Ron, thanks for taking time to stop bu my blog and for the wonderful comments. I like what you have here, and will continue to stop by from time to time. I, or better said we also found the one true God at a non denominational church here in Eau Claire, WI. I would suggest one thing that I picked up in your story, I believe that we are called as God’s children to bring Heaven here to this world, I don’t say anymore “I can’t wait to see what heaven looks like, because my life is so different today. And none of ti belongs to me, none it happened because I finally got it right, no; it all happened because I allowed God to come and live in me, to take root in my inner world and change my life. Again I wanted to thank you for stopping by and inviting me here. May God’s love go with you. Dave

  25. Dave, it’s nice to have you here. I have communicated with your brother from time to time, and will do so with also. Yes, we must occupy to Christ comes, but to want to see heaven and live with the one true living God is something I believe we must all look forward to. Titus 1:1-2 declares “1 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness; 2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;” Dave, my hope is to make heaven my home; in the meantime, we must all fill the world with the gospel of Christ.

  26. Great…! God bless you. Pls read about the Persecution of Christians in Orissa, India at: http://www.christianalert.wordpress.com
Kindly remember the suffering saints in your prayers…

  27. Very nice blog you have here! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

  28. Timi, glad you dropped by, and do come again. Thanks for the kind words, too.

  29. Thanks for stopping by my blog…I appreciated your thoughts! And to answer your question…yes, it is very difficult for them to see many things, spiritually….war or no war. 😦

    • Maureen, you are welcome here on my blog any time. We continue to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, that Israel would find rest from the constant battle. The world is certainly full of turmoil, strife and hatred; there will be no lasting peace until the Prince of peace rules and reigns. What a day that will be.

  30. Thank you for sharing with us at Lisbon last Friday evening about the new Tabernacle of David and fresh worship. Your insights of getting into His presence is a blessing. Obed-Edam got his, where’s mine!
    Be blessed.

    • Barbara, first of all, thank you for dropping by this small slice of the net. Secondly, it was my distinct pleasure and honor to break the bread of life with the fine people of Lisbon. Absolutely right! Obed-edom got his, and I want mine. Do you think many have put the emphasis on strictly worship without asking for the very presence of God, as in the tabernacle of David? BTW, that is one of my favorite subjects, and there was so much more to talk about, but time just wouldn’t permit.

You are most welcome to come here as often as you wish, and it was good hearing from you. Be blessed.

  31. Hey pastor it is Austin Dale from church. I think you are the greatest pastor i have ever had. You teach the gospel well and i hope i can come to your services for a very long time. Thanks for everything!

    • Austin, I am so glad you dropped by and visited the blog. I’m thankful you are a part of our church. Keep up the good work, and visit here often. See you soon.

  32. Hey pastor it’s Austin. I think it is good the church is starting to do more fundraisers and that Boston butt was really good.I hope you have a good week! See you soon.

    • Hello, Austin. Yes, fundraisers can certainly be a lot of fun, and I’m glad we’re getting involved and doing some of them. The Boston Butt BBQ was excellent; that was some good meat. We’ve got a couple of those roasts in the freezer, too.

  33. A little belated note–please feel free to use any of John’s photos from our blog or Flickr for your site, if you desire. However, your blog is perfect, just as is!! Linda

    • Thanks, Linda. John’s pics are wonderful, and I have several of them as desktop backgrounds on both of my Linux boxes. I do not have that kind of talent. There may just come a time when one of those pics will be just the right one for a post. I appreciate your offer.

  34. Thanks for leaving the comment on my blog.

Keep it locked down in central Florida. My wife and I love it there – we have a lot of family in Tampa.

    I’ll be browsing the blog.

    • We love it here, too. Tampa is our denomination headquarters in Florida. You are most welcome to browse the blog; you will find a wide array of topics to look through. Be blessed.

  35. Dear Preacherpen,

I am a pastor in Coweta, Ok. and I notice an old blog of ours
and you had ran down an old Cambridge KJV 83. Mine is falling apart
and I badly need a new one. I preach from mine and I just cant think
of not finding one. Do you know where I could get one.

    IN Christ,
    Thank you,
    John Fulton

    • Pastor Fulton,
First of all, thank you for dropping in and leaving a comment. Yes, that particular bible is wonderful, and the one I have is just a well-made, quality crafted book. I have a post about it, and I thought you would have commented on that one, but here we are.

There are some links on the right hand side of this blog, and if you will click on Tucker’s Books, you will find the bible you are looking for. I’m quite sure there are other places on the net, and I have seen some of them, but Tucker’s does advertise that particular bible. Hope you find the one you want.

  36. Greetings, its for me a Happy time, I’m from Ecuador.
Happy time find a Christian Linux User.
It’s a interest for me. A question, do you recomend Mepis. Why? Please response, I need that response. For me is a response from God too.

    God bless you

    • Stefano,
It is so good reading your comments all the way from Ecuador. Thank you for visiting my blog; it means so much to me. Yes, I am a Christian and a Linux user, which, I think, is a good combination.

I most certainly do recommend Mepis as that is what I’ve been using for a long time now. It’s stable, fast, and simple to use. There is a new version being developed right now, and should be available soon. I am looking forward to seeing it in action.

      Be blessed, and visit again.

  37. HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you & your lovely family! Keep on bloggin’! It’s nice to know you’re out here, fighting the good fight of faith and encouragement in your corner of the blog-o-sphere. 🙂

    • eb, that was very nice of you. I want to wish you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving, too. We’ve had some down time today, and it’s a good thing to do.

  38. do you recall the name of the pastor at Bethel Full Gospel in Oklahoma City?

    • No, but I’ve tried remembering on numerous occasions. How did you know the name of the church where I met Christ other than on this blog? I can still remember the day I got saved just as clearly as ever. I also remember some of the fine people who attended that wonderful church, no their names, but glimpses of them. Thanks for the comment.

  39. Hello!! I haven’t seen any recent posts from you lately, so I’m wondering if you are alright? I pray that you are healthy, safe, blessed, and just really busy! Blessings, Linda

    • I’ve been spending most of my writing time on Facebook. Thanks you so much for asking about me. I am very happy, healthy, safe, blessed and very busy. Good things are happening around here.

      Pastor Ron
