It’s Official – America Has Lost Her Moral Compass

In A Christian Life, Family, Politics, The Pastor's Blog on November 5, 2008 at 12:54 AM

My wife and I went to the polling station about mid-morning today and was greeted with hardly any line at all. There may have been four other people exercising their right to vote; many had already come and gone by the time we got there. Some of the voting staff informed us the long lines had already come and gone.

I’ve wrestled with this post for a while now, and will continue writing as the night wears on. There is no definitive answer yet, but many of the news commentators have already thrown the towel in Senator Obama’s direction, and have concluded he has essentially won. There is still hope America will do the right thing and rally for a better man with better ideas – Senator John McCain.

In many ways the situation in America reminds me of how the prophet Jeremiah must have seen his beloved nation as judgment loomed on the horizon. He was called the weeping prophet because he tearfully pleaded with his countrymen to turn from their wicked ways to follow the one true living God. In short, they refused to hear his words and obey the voice of the Lord. Jeremiah wept because he knew the wrath of God would soon follow, and many lives would be lost. The prophet begged the people to turn to God, and they refused. How sad it is when God calls and people refuse his outstretched arm.

Has America lost her moral compass? In so many ways she has, yet there is a hope in the mercy and grace of Almighty God. The Lord is still pleading with us to repent. It is my firm belief God is not through with this great nation of ours, but we must turn to God with all our hearts. In fact, the Word of God tells us in Joel 2:13 “And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.”

We are living in a day like never before; it is a day our fathers and forefathers never dreamed of. Many of the things righteous people used to call good are now called bad and out of touch with reality. Many of the things conservative people used to call wicked are now taken as normal and just “the way it is.” We have lost our moral compass when God’s righteousness is so lightly esteemed to the point it is ridiculed and mocked in a nation that used to honor those same values. Isaiah 5:20 declares “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”

Just a moment ago, proof of my assertion was officially announced – the most left-leaning senator in history has been elected with the help of the mainstream media and misguided American people. Yes, America has officially lost her moral compass, and now we face a time in our nation’s brief history like none other. Remember, you get what you pay for, and I’m afraid we will not like what we get.

It is my firm belief we would be looking at different results had the mainstream media done their jobs instead of purposefully influencing this election. As one of the commentators said tonight, one thing Governor Palin did was to invigorate the media’s ability to do investigative reporting. They are still trying to dig up dirt. How sad it is when McCain/Palin were faced with such an unfair disadvantage.

Some have suggested if you don’t agree with Senator Obama then there is obviously a racial slant to your argument. That is not necessarily so. Many rational people don’t like the Illinois senator simply because his ideas and left-leaning agenda are so vastly different than the Christian principles on which this nation was formed; it has nothing to do with his race. He is a socialist who really does not love our country and has done and said anything necessary just to get elected to the highest office in the land.

Sadly, America has drifted to the left of center and the proof is in the pudding. How is our once powerful and respected nation supposed to hold her head up when the people have chosen to kick God out and elect a man whose ideas and ideology are so diametrically opposed to the laws of God? It’s as if America just said “we don’t care what’s right, we just want what we want, and don’t care about the consequences.” In other words, “we don’t want to have to hold our heads up, we want to be like everyone else and do what we want. We don’t want morality and rational thinking to guide us.” America, we’re better than what we just did!

What perplexes me most is the number of people who name Christ as their savior and still cast their ballots for the Obama/Biden ticket. Honestly, that is amazing, to say the least. How can you in good conscience vote for a man who cares so little about the lives of unborn babies? How do you vote for a man who wants to bankrupt families whose lives depend on wages earned from the coal industry? How can you vote for a man whose life has been so heavily influenced by people who don’t love this great nation? How could you cast your ballot for a man who wants to take money away from those who worked so hard to obtain it in order to give it to those who haven’t? How can you vote for a man who cares so little for our friends and allies, the nation of Israel? Was there no thinking or reasoning done?

I could go on for pages, but this is enough for now. America, I am so disappointed in you, yet there is still hope that shines brighter than the noon sun or stars in the night sky. Our hope cannot rest in man; it must rest in the love, grace and mercy of our loving heavenly Father – Almighty God. Many will now look to government like never before to solve life’s complex problems, but government can never take the place of a genuine relationship with God.

Like never before, it is high time Christians awake out of sleep in order to proclaim the cause of Christ to a lost and dying world. Our clarion call ought to be, “awake, awake and repent before God!” The Bible tells us in Psalms 20:7 “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.” Christians, arise and pray like never before. Ask God for grace and mercy in these perilous times.

America, arise and through God’s mercy, let us work together to once again find our moral compass. Let us call on God for a revival which will sweep the land and bring a real change to the hearts of the people of this great nation.

Last minute edit: My wife just gave me her take on what has happened, and I would like to share her thoughts with you. She said “America has just done what Dr. Martin Luther King did not want. We chose a president by the color of his skin instead of the content of his character.” You know, that seems about right to me.

Cartoons and Politics

In E-Mail Tidbits, Politics, The Pastor's Blog on November 3, 2008 at 1:50 PM

With all the serious stuff we’ve seen on television and heard on the radio, I felt is was time to add a little levity to this blog. There is already way too much sadness going on in light of the way many Americans are speaking about this election. One vote for Illinois senator Obama is way too many, IMHO.

In an Augusta Chronicle cartoon by Rick McKee, Senator Obama is faced with his wacky, left-wing ideas, and doesn’t like what he sees. It’s good to take money from other people, but not so much when confronted with the idea he will have to share with others. Take a look.

That’s pretty funny to me, but shows just the kind of person we are dealing with. America, you need to wake up before it’s too late. Do you know the kind of person he is? If not, why would you even vote for him?

Someone gave me an e-mail last week, and I though it was hilarious, but sad at the same time. Look at the following commentary and picture, and see if it hits home with you.

I don’t know who should get the credit for the above e-mail, so please help me out. If you are the author, let me know and I will be sure to rectify the situation. Thanks.

You Don’t Agree With Me? – You’re Gone

In Politics on October 31, 2008 at 6:47 PM

While looking at news on the internet today, a story appeared that showed what may occur in America with an Obama presidency. It would be a tragedy if the American people make the wrong choice by putting this extremely liberal Illinois senator in the Oval Office. If he does win, it will certainly be with the help of left-wing media and people who’s judgment can only be considered suspect.

The story regards journalists from three major newspapers who happen to have endorsed Senator John McCain. The papers who no longer get to fly on Senator Obama’s campaign plane are the Washington Times, the New York Post and the Dallas Morning News. It is to be understood these papers have been covering the Obama campaign for a long time.

Washington Times Executive Editor John Solomon told FOXNew.com what the Obama campaign told him regarding this issue, that were not enough seats on the plane. Were seats taken out of the plane during the last week? It seems Washington Times was kicked off just two days after endorsing Senator John McCain. Hmmm. That just doesn’t sound right to me.

Let me say something on this issue that may not set well with some people. The plane belongs to the Obama campaign, and they have a right to carry whomever they want as they travel about the country. The manner in which it was done, and the particular papers kicked off the plane seems to be suspect. Please, just be honest and tell the real reason: they were kicked off because the Illinois senator wants to ban anyone who opposes his viewpoint.

Is this what’s in store for America if the most liberal Democrat in recent history is pushed into the White House by the mainstream media’s bias machine? Is this what conservative talk radio is headed for if Mr. Obama is elected to the highest office in the land? We better get on our knees before Almighty God now, asking for grace and mercy in the face of the crisis before us.

Kicking journalists off the campaign plane is not disastrous in and of itself, but adding all the other left-leaning rhetoric from the Obama/Biden ticket is certainly cause for alarm. To put it in terms the left can understand, Senator Obama would like nothing better than for our country to be turned into a nation we can no longer easily recognize. He would like radical judges to sit on benches making law instead of making judgments in reference to the law. He wants our nation to be like Robin Hood of Sherwood Forest – take from the rich and give to the poor.

America, this man is just wrong for our country, and we would all be better served if he loved the country enough to just go back to organizing communities.

Will the Real Leader Please Stand Up?

In Politics on September 24, 2008 at 11:20 PM

While watching Fox News this afternoon, I heard something that was quite astounding: Senator John McCain is going to stop all advertising, fund raising and other campaign events and return to Washington to work for a bipartisan solution to the current economic crisis. I certainly commend him for pursuing this course of action and hope members on both sides of the aisle can work together for the good of our nation.

According to The Washington Times, the Illinois senator wants to continue with the scheduled Friday night debate. During a news conference in Clearwater, Florida, Senator Obama reacted to Senator McCain’s announcement with this comment: “It’s going to be part of the president’s job to deal with more than one thing at once.” Yes, it will be, but neither of you is president, and the country needs someone who will put country ahead of politics. Senator McCain’s adviser Mark Salter said the debate would go forward if a bill is passed by Friday morning.

Some think the move by Senator McCain was motivated strictly for political gain, as he has fallen behind the Illinois senator by a 45-39 margin. This information comes from a Fox News Poll released Wednesday, September 24. Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid told reporters Senator McCain “is trying to divert attention from his failing campaign.” Yes, that sounds like wonderful support when something needs to get done. I should not be surprised to hear a comment like that. According to Politico, New York Senator Charles Schumer told CNN that McCain’s suspension of his campaign was “weird and odd.”

It seems the Democrats will not be satisfied with Senator McCain, no matter what he does. Our country is facing another crisis like the one we faced seven years ago when terrorists attacked the sovereignty of our great nation. Leaders from both parties came together to get essential work done, and it needs to happen again. I believe party-line bickering needs to end so the good of the nation can be addressed in a timely and professional manner. What do you think?

I don’t know the outcome of the next week, month or year, but one thing I do know for sure is the fact our people need to our hearts to God again. It is my opinion our great nation has fallen a long way from the Godly principles first instilled in us so many years ago. While I do not believe all hope is gone, I do believe America is facing desperate times like she never has before. Instead of pushing God out of every area of our lives, we need to cry out for His mercy and grace during this time of turmoil. The Word of God declares in Proverbs 14:34 “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.”

Real leaders come in all shapes and sizes. I still recall watching President Bush standing with brave firefighters and declaring terrorist actions would not go unpunished. I see leaders such as Sir Winston Churchill standing up against a ruthless enemy during World War II. King David led his people to many victories and established a great nation. No one knows for sure everything about Senator McCain’s actions today, and we may never know. I am certain, however, he showed real leadership today as he put politics aside, if but for a short while, in order to devote precious time to fix an economic crisis.

We need leaders who will work in our nation’s best interest. Let the real leader please stand up.

An Obama E-Mail – Is It True?

In E-Mail Tidbits, Politics on September 23, 2008 at 5:46 PM

It is no secret to anyone reading this blog how I stand firmly against Senator Obama’s bid for presidency. It is my opinion he is a dangerous man and would, if elected, do more harm than good because of his distorted views on a variety of subjects. Much of what has been said about this man is true, and much of it is false; it is difficult to distinguish between the two.

While I do not support the Obama/Biden ticket, and wish others would have the sense not to either, it is not my wish to spread untruths about any of the candidates. Wouldn’t it be wonderful for each candidate to speak to the issues while not destroying opponents in the process? That is quite a lot to hope for, especially in this election cycle. Mudslinging has risen to new heights, or lows, depending on how you view the situation.

Since the announcement of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as Senator John McCain’s running mate, we have endured the most vile, vicious, insidious and disgusting attacks of any presidential campaign. The left has not run a decent campaign; they continue pushing the envelope on what most rational people would consider over the line. Honestly, Governor Palin’s family should be off limits to verbal attacks and jabs; they are not running for office. The Palin family is a typical one with faults and failures, to be sure. Leave them alone.

The reason for this post is a desire to voice my opinions about an e-mail received this morning. It’s one that’s been circulating around for a while now, and casts the Illinois senator in a bad light. Trust me, he doesn’t need an e-mail full of false and misleading statements to highlight his inadequacies and dangerous agendas. This e-mail is probably old news to many of you, but it is new to me, so please bear with me.

After reading through the comments in the e-mail, something didn’t seem right. Although the content sounded right, I just didn’t feel comfortable with the wording. I decided to do some investigating and did a Google search. Two sites confirmed my suspicions regarding the content of the noted e-mail and have plenty of documentation to refute what was said. The first site I visited was FactCheck.org. A reader asked a question about the same correspondence I received, and here it is:

Q: Did Obama write that he would “stand with the Muslims” and that he nurses a “pervasive sense of grievance and animosity” toward whites?
Can you guys provide some context to this e-mail. Not sure if you have already but thought I would pass it along. Thanks.

Basically, the answer can be summed up as follows:

A: No. A widely circulated e-mail fabricates some quotes from Obama’s books and twists others.
Anyone looking for Barack Obama’s real sentiments about whites, blacks and Muslims won’t find them in this scurrilous collection of falsified, doctored and context-free “quotations.” The e-mail claims to feature words taken from Obama’s books, “The Audacity of Hope” (2006) and “Dreams from My Father” (1995, republished in 2004). But we found that two of the quotes are false, and others have been manipulated or taken out of context.

The second site I looked at was Snopes.com – In His Own Words. It basically says the same thing as the first site – the e-mail is full of distortions and devoid of context. Please take a moment to look at the sites and draw your own conclusions. Do we really know for sure about the Illinois senator, Barack Obama? When it’s all said and done, I believe there is much we don’t know, and can’t count on our biased left-wing media to dig into the matter.

For once, I would like to see our media give the same amount of scrutiny to the Obama/Biden ticket as we have seen with McCain/Palin. What can be said regarding Senator Obama’s ties to questionable characters and his overly fast rise in political circles? Why is Hollywood so madly in love with him? There are more questions, but they will have to wait.

The Dirt Patrol and Governor Palin

In Politics on September 9, 2008 at 5:30 PM

Please tell me I didn’t see what I saw on Inside Edition just a few minutes ago. Please don’t tell me the media has stooped so low as to criticize this wonderful Christian woman about “speaking in tongues.” Please tell me they are not drawing comparisons to Senator Obama’s hate-filled former pastor and her. Then, again, it’s kind of expected.

The attacks on this woman have far exceeded what is considered normal journalistic scrutiny – they have sunk to the depths of “sewer politics.” Ask her tough questions, find out where she stands on key issues, but leave her children alone. While listening to Bud Hedinger Live this afternoon, mention was made about an army of 30 lawyers being dropped into Wasilla, Alaska to try their best to dig up dirt on this extraordinary woman. How pathetic!

It seems many on the left have a problem with a candidate who really loves Jesus Christ, and who is not ashamed of that relationship. There is more to these attacks than just an empty political party venting their frustrations and lack of integrity on a rival candidate and her family. No, I believe the enemy is far more hideous and deceiving than the Democratic party ever thought about being.

The enemy I refer to is Satan, the devil, that old serpent, Lucifer, the wicked one. He knows his days are numbered, and has pulled out all the stops. Ultimately, the devil is responsible for attacking Christ, and those who serve Him. As I said, there’s a deeper concern, and that is the repression of anything that puts Jesus and Christianity in a positive light.

There’s more at stake here than an election. Just like the disciples did in the early church, we who believe in Jesus as our Savior, need to pray for boldness to preach the gospel of Christ to a lost and dying world. We need to pray for our country like never before, as we are facing an enemy far more dangerous than left-wing bias and an out-of-control media. Acts 4:29-31 says:

29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, 30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus. 31 ¶And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

With all her faults and failures, I still believe America is a great nation, and I am thankful to live here. People are free to choose which side of the political spectrum they want to be on and support. We are blessed far more than what we deserve; it is the grace of God that keeps us going. Just one request now:

Fire the dirt patrol.

McCain Over Obama – Will it Last?

In Politics on September 8, 2008 at 6:07 AM

According to Gallup, there is a surge of enthusiasm in the Republican camp after the convention. This is due in large part to the phenomenal speech Governor Sarah Palin gave. Thankfully, the McCain/Palin ticket has not only matched the unfortunate bounce Obama/Biden received after their convention, but they have also pulled slightly ahead.

One area that shows a significant jump is enthusiasm. Apparently, two factors have lead to what amounts to a “booster shot” affect in the Republican party. First was the unlikely selection of Governor Palin as Senator McCain’s running mate; this was kept secret until the announcement on August 29. Secondly, the governor’s speech on Wednesday night was a ball hit out of the park. With these two factors in place, data shows an 18-point jump in Republican party enthusiasm. That is quite remarkable.

Polls are sometimes accurate tools, but what does this poll really mean? Basically, it means the jump Obama/Biden received after their convention has been completely erased. In fact, the Republican ticket enjoys a slight lead, the most Senator McCain has enjoyed during his race to the White House. When we look at registered voters, McCain/Palin has a slight lead and an even larger lead when looking at people who are likely to vote.

Time will tell how Governor Palin’s selection as Senator McCain’s running mate will ultimately affect this election. As a conservative, I can hope for several important things to occur between now and election day. First, many undecided voters would see the importance of electing McCain/Palin as the next leaders of the free world. Secondly, Americans, who have been so blinded by Senator Obama’s empty call for change, would wake up and see the dangerous path he would lead us down. Lastly, to have a fair playing field – no media bias. I know, this last one is a stretch.

What do you think?

Alaska Governor Sarah Palins acceptance speech

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin's acceptance speech

I don’t know how many of you watched speeches at the Republican Convention last night, but my wife and I were able to take in a couple of them. We watched as Mayor Rudy Giuliani spoke on key issues, such as our nation’s security, taxes and jobs. He was masterful in his presentation of Senator McCain’s qualifications.

We eagerly awaited Governor Sarah Palin’s speech, and neither of us was disappointed. Put very simply, the governor knocked this one out of the park in dynamic fashion. She spoke about her family and how it is much like any other family in America. We appreciated that openness, and admire her for the job she has done, and, hopefully, will do as vice-president of the United States of America. To read the transcript and view the speech again, look at this New York Times article.

Governor Palin also described her experience as both a “soccer mom” and government offices. We laughed as she described the difference between a soccer mom and a bulldoglipstick. That was hilarious. I think she brought her own personality to the platform, and displayed it for all the world to see.

She has had to make tough decisions as mayor of a small town and as governor of the great state of Alaska. In both government offices, she served with conviction and expertise, fighting for people who could not fight for themselves. Her accomplishments are outstanding and should be applauded by both sides of the aisle.

In my opinion, Senator McCain made a great decision for his vice-presidential running mate. He and VP Palin will work well together to get some important things done for our great country. Will they be perfect? Absolutely not. Will they occasionally make mistakes? Probably. There are no perfect people on this planet, but we can be confident these two will work on our behalf.

Our hope does not rest in the White House or the halls of congress. Our hope is in the God of all creation and Jesus Christ His Son. Thank God for leaders who watch out for our good, and who protect us from the evils of this world. I’m looking for a city built by God, which is New Jerusalem. Hebrews 11:10 says of Abraham “For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.”

Where is your hope and trust? Please, let it be in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who loved you and gave Himself for you. He has set leaders in place for us, and I’m thankful there is one who is like a bulldog and wears lipstick. What do you think?

Double Standards and Venom

In Politics on September 3, 2008 at 12:54 PM

I am amazed at how Republicans and conservatives are both portrayed and attacked in many forms of media today. There is a constant barrage of double standards and venom spewing out of much of the mainstream media, and, to me, that discredits them to a great extent. Whatever became of fairness and integrity when reporting on issues?

Case in point is story of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin being a member of the Alaska Independence Party in the 1990s. It was not true, and the New york Times printed a retraction. It’s good the Times clarified the story, but would it not have been better to make sure of the facts first? Just a thought.

Another story I saw while watching Fox News this morning is quite disturbing, but not altogether surprising. Michelle Malkin wrote an article yesterday regarding the obvious Senator Obama bias at Us Weekly. She posted two dramatically different covers, and it is painfully clear how low the magazine will go to in order to circulate copies. The editor could have at least put a different picture on the cover, one without the baby. On the other hand, the publisher chose a cover that seems to turn the Obamas into the nation’s sweetest couple. Can you say, “double standard?”

You might ask, “why even bring this up?” Well, it does matter. It is my firm belief the children should not be attacked. Glenn Beck mentioned an unknown blogger this morning who said the Palin children are fair game because their names were mentioned in a speech Governor Palin gave. What? Does that mean Senator Obama’s children can now be attacked because they spoke at the Democratic Convention? The answer is, “no.”

Politics can certainly be ugly, but it doesn’t have to be like that. No one is guiltless, and we all need a Savior. Thank God forever, Jesus Christ is that Savior, and we must put our trust in Him. Romans 3:10-19 declares the following:

10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. 13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: 14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: 15 Their feet are swift to shed blood: 16 Destruction and misery are in their ways: 17 And the way of peace have they not known: 18 There is no fear of God before their eyes. 19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the candidate spoke of their own plans and ideas instead of smearing each other? What do you think?

Perhaps America is Waking Up

In Politics on August 26, 2008 at 4:24 PM

It is no secret on my part Senator Obama is a bad choice for president of our wonderful country. He is a dangerous man, and would only make things worse. Naturally, there are scores of people who emphatically disagree with me; it is certainly their right to do so.

While browsing the Fox News site, I came across an interesting article, McCain Passes Obama in Gallup Tracking Poll…. Well, I’m all for that. Don’t misunderstand me, I am not 100% in favor of Senator John McCain, but the other choice is certainly no good for any of us, IMHO.

As I stated on Larry’s My Take blog, the more Senator Obama is seen in public, the more we find out about him, and what we see is not all that good. Perhaps the Gallup Tracking Poll gives America hope – that people are finally waking up!
